DANIEL KALUUYA: THE MAN, HIS MISSION &
HIS MOVIES!
FIVE THINGS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT
DK!
Happy New Year, people! It’s been
such a long minute and to make up for my time away, I have decided to give you
(my ladies especially) a treat!
ENTER: DANIEL KALUUYA
On his way to becoming an icon,
here are five facts you most likely didn’t know about this chocolate wonder taking
not only Wakanda by storm, but the entire world!
1) Uganda, my Uganda: If you didn’t know that Daniel’s parents are originally (making
him, too) Ugandan until this very moment, don’t worry, you’re not alone. I
recently discovered his African heritage too and for some “Africans stick
together no matter what” reason, my curiosity has taken a rather heightened
turn. I love that, for the most part, he is proudly African and not in the
least bit interested in concealing his very roots or identity. It now makes so
much sense why he had the best accent imitation in Marvel’s Black Panther!
PLEASE, DO NOT COME FOR ME!:D
2) Union Jack Representing: Although
he killed that African accent as W’kabi in Wakanda Land and his American lingo
in “Get Out” was so spot on, you might be bewildered to learn that Daniel was actually
born and has lived most part of his life in the United Kingdom! Despite now making
big moves in Hollywood, the “innit’s” and the “rah’s” still follow him
everywhere he goes! I’m almost tempted to re-watch Get Out, just to see him do
wonders with that American accent again. I had no idea it was fake!
3) Before He “Got Out” with
Black Panther: I’ll be really honest here- before
Get Out and Black Panther, Daniel had not been on my radar at all. In fact, I
literally had no idea who he was. But Thank God for His mercies because bruh!
Once it is your time, ain’t nothing stopping ya! Daniel had a few stints here
and there in one or two movies, TV shows
and series, most significantly (to me, at least) “Black Mirror” where he
featured in the “Fifteen Million Merits” episode, but received no real
recognition until his big break in “Get Out” in 2017 and Black Panther, a year
later! Please give me a second to wipe off a really proud tear. It’s safe to
say that after Get Out, he literally “got out!” Bad joke, but it does make
sense if you think about it!

4) Man nah Tweet, Man nah Instagram:
If you ever watch or listen to Daniel being
interviewed, I bet it wouldn’t take you five minutes to appreciate his bubbly
personality! He possesses layers upon layers of charisma and literally makes
light of every single question thrown at him- awkward, silly, racially
aggravating or not. Man’s just always seems there to enjoy himself. So, it came
as a rude shock when I realized that he has no Twitter account and his
verified Instagram account has zero posts too...snooze. From what I gather,
however, he used to tweet once upon a time. Wonder what happened. If you ever
read this, Daniel, please fix up! We wanna interact with you! We’ll stay away
from your DMs. Promise...not.

5) Started From the Bottom: How cute
is it that Daniel wrote his very first play when he was only nine?! It went on
to be performed at Hampstead Theatre. Now 29, it wouldn’t be far from the truth
to say that he’s one of those guys who knew what he wanted from the get go and
literally could not have done anything else! I’m glad he followed through!
Wonder if things would have turned out this way if he grew up on this side
of the continent. Just saying.
HONOURABLE MENTION: He has a
girlfriend, Amanda’s her name, but that’s all I’m spilling on that!;)
That’s it, y’all! I hope that you enjoyed reading and hope even
more that I’ll be able to do a follow-up post to this really soon, bringing you
all the interesting things that Daniel would have gotten involved in! Until
then, we keep the Wakanda flag flying on his behalf!
