Five Utterly RANDOM Facts About Me!

Doctor Adanna Steinacker once aptly said:

“What makes people interesting actually has little to do with their accomplishments or title, rather it’s the things that people cannot ‘Google’ about you.”

Let’s get straight into mine, shall we?

1)  I play drum kits really well. No, I didn’t make any conscious, deliberate, “out of my way” efforts to learn. I was very interestingly “born with the gift.” Blessed by God. Just like that. Of course, over time, I have made efforts to improve my dexterity and so forth.

Rather sadly,  I wasn’t always proud of my abilities and would often downplay my skills very insecurely because, for the most part, it appeared a tad unusual “for a girl to be able to do that.”

Fast forward to present day, being able to serve in God’s House, rhythmically leading His children as they lift up holy hands- swaying bodies left and right like rustling leaves on a windy day- has been the greatest honor of my life!

Every time I realize the fact that impressionable young girls have watched me play my heart out, a certain passion permeates my soul. To have witnessed conversations & facial expressions of innocent perplexity shift from “What in the world?” to “Teach me how you do that” feels greatly precious; And if my playing continues to inspire and further advance equality movements, I’ll attribute that to having fulfilled an incredible purpose on earth!

It also follows that knowing what I know now, if I could pen a letter to my younger self, I would encourage her to let her light shine! I would reinforce how special her gift is and remind her that one sporting activity or musical instrument or career for that matter isn’t better suited to a particular gender & that feeling out of place for doing what she loves is never an option!

2) I’m heavily into ASMR. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response if we’re getting really technical. So great is my “addiction” that I’m hardly able to fall asleep without the sounds of  page turning or food eating filtering into my ears. If you suggest that I get some help for this, I wouldn’t spite you! πŸ˜ Conversely, if ASMR is also your thing & you can relate, please leave a comment to let me know I’m not alone! 😁

3. In grade five of primary school, I beat (thrashed is the more appropriate word but for modesty purposes) a year niner (secondary school) at a word game. For context, the game itself was a variant of a spelling bee contest. It’s not my greatest achievement, of course - but it certainly holds a special spot in my heart. Also helps that it was a pretty big deal at the time, too! So my bragging rights remain strong & I can assure you that my kids are gonna hear every intricate detail of this story!

Also, to the lad,  if by the tiniest stroke of chance you ever  happen to read this, I never got to thank you for your spirit of sportsmanship!

4) I had corrective eye surgery twice in the same year and on the same eye. 😱

I’m talking only four months apart or so. 2015, I believe the year was. This one event accounts for the bravest thing I have ever done- or more specifically, I have ever let be done to me!  If we’ve met, then you probably know which eye it is. If on the other hand you’ve ever been curious about it, now you know! You’re welcome! :)

5) I am mildly fluent in the French language! Please note that the “mildly” descriptor used here is extremely subjective! Seriously though, Je parle un peu franΓ§ais. S’ameliore encore. πŸ˜‚
