FASHION:
MALE ROMPERS- YAY OR NAY?
Hey!
Hey! It’s AJ, reporting live from my bedroom, high on the ecstasy of
bringing you new content! Am I getting an A+ for consistency or what? Lol. Hope
your weekend’s coming on all well and good? I’ve spent most of mine learning
the hard way that kids these days are incredibly smarter than we actually give
‘em credit for. All the ways I’ve been outsmarted by my little cousins, yeah? Let’s
not even get started. I’ll leave that for another post.
To set the tone for today’s, I’ll start with
a quote you’ve probably heard or seen about in your daily dealings:
“Life is too short to wear boring clothes.”
With that, ladies and gentlemen, the
gentlemen especially, ROMPERS are in style! If you’re not too sure what I’m
going on about, there are photos below.
To be honest, I was gobsmacked the first time
I laid my eyes on a pair of these (for men). And when I realized that a lot of
guys on my Twitter timeline were feeling it, I think I fainted. Spiritually.
Looking back, I guess I may have overreacted
just a little. Thing is, why would I want to see a man, who’s not my man, in a tight,
shorts-style pair way above his knees? Yuck, right?
Wrong.
After scrolling through many a picture, I
eventually found a few that didn’t make my eyes bleed.
In the spirit of goodwill, I thought to share
a few tips on how to rock your romper.
DISCLAIMER: This is all fun! You take my
advice at your own peril. That being said, do not completely disregard
everything you read here. I’m the type of person who messes about a lot but
nevertheless, drips a lot of wisdom as I go along, ya dig? Lol. So, here goes:
1)
Make sure you have the right body
build. If you’ve been stocking up on the beer recently, and your belly’s been
on the receiving end, no disrespect, but how about we try again next year? Only
setback to this would probably be the trend of something far, for honest lack
of a better word, more “interesting” than rompers. But look at it this way, if
you’re gonna slay, might as well give them completely, right?
2)
Your legs are the center of
attention in these pieces. Gosh, I never thought I’d see the day I tell a
man his legs are the center of attention. Bottom line, make sure they are
decent-looking. Legs that your fellow humans wouldn’t actually mind seeing. We see enough disheartening images during the day, shall we try not to add nomad-looking legs to that list? Thank you!
3)
Be careful what footwear you rock
them with: The one amazing thing about rompers is that you don't need to stress too much working out what shoes to pair them with- literally anything should be fine- slippers, sneakers, loafers. However, keep away from 'heel-ey' loafers. You know those ones that are best suited for the office? Yeah, those ones. High top sneakers (air force ones, for example) should be avoided as well. We're trying to be fashionable, not rehearsing for 'who's got the weirdest outfit day'. :)
One more thing, please keep it moderate with the accessories. It's okay to throw on a hat or baseball cap, if you like, but leave your ten gold chains at home. Well, except you're on set shooting your next music video. And even so, less is more with the romper, boys! You're showing off enough already. :)

4)
Last but definitely not least,
please purchase rompers in colours that suit your skin tone, okay? The colour black will almost invariably match a lot of skin tones. HOWEVER, it is also important to note what skin tone category yours falls under- are you warm, cool or the neutral that can get away with anything? Hopefully, this link should help you figure things out a little.
At the end of the day, after all said and
done, fashion is, and always will be, an expression of your innate and personal
style. I think Oscar De La Renta put it more aptly when he said: “fashion is a
trend, style lives within a person.”
So if rompers are it for you, by all means,
DO YOU, boo boo. Plus, it’s summer too, ey? But please and please, for the sake
of all things good and kind, do us all a favour and remember to moisturise/shave your legs at least? Please?
If not, we do not want to see. J
I
really want to know your thoughts on this! Fellas, would you rock a romper?
Ladies, would you be comfortable rolling with your man in one? Let me know! J
Happy romper-slaying!
With all my love,
~A.J.
